Nursing Professor B. Steven from USA thoughts about the nursing specialty:
“Nursing includes a “little bit of everything”, but above all care and compassion for patients. Nurses support all the medical roles and positions - we are there to help.”
I’ve been working at Clinic EGV since it opened. Since 2002 I’ve been the head nurse. I oversee patient care planning, organizing and management, and patient education. Communication and collaboration with patients who want to have children is my daily task. So the most important aspect of my work is patient education when preparing for fertility treatment, and psychological support to reduce anxiety and provide a sense of care and well-being before procedures. Since 2009 I’ve been responsible for Clinic EGV’s QMS (in accordance with European standard ISO 9001:2008). My professional and practical skills are kept up-do-date by also working at the Children's Clinical University Hospital as the children's nurse.
I graduated from Riga 3. Medical School - degree in nursing and Children's Nursing Specialty certificate. In 2006 I graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Latvia - Masters Degree of Health Sciences in Nursing. I also studied psychology. In 2001 I graduated from the Riga Teacher Training and Educational Management Academy, Faculty of Pedagogy and School Management. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Qualification of School and Family Psychologist. I improve my professional knowledge and skills on various educational courses, seminars and conferences. I’m a member of the Latvian Nurses Association, Association of Paediatric Nurses.
